ABOUT Dr. Shelly Harrell and Soulfulness4Life
Dr. Shelly P. Harrell is a psychologist with nearly 30 years of experience as a therapist, professor, mentor, and consultant. She has focused her career on both research and applied work developing and delivering interventions that address the needs of culturally-diverse and underrepresented populations. Born and raised in Detroit, MI, she graduated Magna Cum Laude with Highest Honors from Harvard University and received her Ph.D. in clinical psychology (with a minor in community psychology) from UCLA. She is currently a Full Professor at Pepperdine University’s Graduate School of Education and Psychology and has served as a Visiting Professor at UCLA since 2000. She has presented at national conferences and consulted with community, healthcare, and educational organizations on topics such as cultural competence for health care professionals, infusing culture into psychological interventions, intergroup relations, culturally-informed mindfulness, racism-related stress, psychological well-being, and resilience-oriented interventions. Soulfulness4Life is a company dedicated to developing and implementing psychoeducational, training, and coaching services with a focus on meditation and other contemplative practices, resilience, empowerment, stress management, and wellness in ways that resonate with culturally-diverse populations. Services include classes, workshops, retreats, consultation, and coaching. Soulfulness4Life comes from her “soul” and represents a culmination of Dr. Harrell’s vast experience and knowledge.
