Dr. Shelly’s Soulfulness Reflections
I feel so blessed to have witnessed so many performances that have deeply touched my soul throughout my life.  My first concert ever was Aretha Franklin in Detroit, Michigan as a child (Thank you Aunt Mildred!).  I have seen Alvin Ailey’s company perform more times than I can count beginning in my early teens in the 1970s.  “Revelations” was performed nearly every time and it never fails to take my breath away.  I will also share that one of the highlights of my life was taking a Master Class in early 80’s with Alvin Ailey himself where we learned segments of this masterpiece.  The music and the dance are expressions of soulfulness that cannot be captured in words… it must be FELT and experienced.  For me, dance has been one of my greatest teachers of soulful experiencing, of the courage to express my truth, of the joy and liberation that movement brings.   Enjoy the brief video excerpt from “Revelations” below!

With Peace, Love, and Soulfulness,
