Saturday Soulfulness: Damien Escobar’s Violin Cover of “Purple Rain”

Dr. Shelly’s Soulfulness Reflections
Music touches my soul like nothing else.  Music is the ultimate expression of our shared human journey through the vibration of sound. Music connects me to my vulnerability, to my strength, to my truth, to my humanness. Music allows me to experience the vulnerability, strength, truth, and humanness of others.  Music affirms that we are not alone in what we experience and go through in life. Music transcends, transports and transforms.

We all have our favorite instruments and I absolutely love the violin.  The first time I heard Damien Escobar play I was blown away.  If you are not familiar with his music, he is a classically-trained violinist who plays jazz and R&B. I’ve been blessed to have seen him in concert several times. This man truly becomes “one” with his instrument!  He has some really beautiful original compositions that transport me to a divine place and have brought me to tears. He also covers some great songs by Whitney, John Legend, Chaka , Michael Jackson, and others.  But, as those who know me well can guess, my favorite cover that he does is Prince’s Purple Rain.  I’ve included it below. Enjoy!

With Peace, Love, and Soulfulness,
